We are excited to announce that LSC’s Dietram A. Scheufele has been selected to receive the 2019 Spitzer Excellence in Teaching Award!
This award recognizes an individual who has significantly enhanced the quality and impact of undergraduate or graduate instruction in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) through outstanding teaching practices, pedagogical scholarship or other beyond-the-classroom accomplishments that have shaped students’ learning experiences and/or the teaching practices of other instructors.
“At UW, we are fortunate to work with some of the brightest students in the world. Receiving the Spitzer award for doing that is truly humbling,” said Scheufele.
Robert Spitzer, the sponsor of this award, is a three-time graduate of CALS who went on to become a leader in agribusiness and the president of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Bob created the award to honor the teachers who made a lasting impression on him.
Each spring, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) recognizes its faculty and staff for their accomplishments and service to the college and UW-Madison. Scheufele is one of three LSC professors to receive this award. Previous recipients include Richard Powers (1982) and Larry Meiller (1989).
“Professor Scheufele is an exceptional teacher and is internationally recognized as one of the leading scholars for issues related to the societal interfaces of emerging technologies,” said LSC professor and chair, Dominique Brossard. “Professors such as him are what make our campus wonderful. We are lucky to have him in LSC.”
