WSUM 91.7 FM Madison Student Radio took home 13 Student Awards for Excellence from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, announced at the association’s annual student seminar on Saturday, March 3, 2012.
WSUM producers won first and second place student awards for Long-Form Production, first for Radio Newscast, first and third for Sports Story, second and third for Sports Play-by-Play, second and third for Public Affairs/Talk Show, second for Sports Programming, and second for News Story. In addition, Sports Director Kyle Deckelbaum won the prestigious Student Leader of the Year award, UW-Madison’s second recipient of this award.
The station also recently received recognition from Madison Mayor Paul Soglin and the city council marking its tenth anniversary of on-air broadcasting on Feb. 22, 2012. The City’s proclamation reads, in part, “WSUM continues to be a shining example of the Wisconsin Idea, producing and delivering high quality audio programming for both the Madison area and broadcasting online that serves the public’s need to discuss ideas and opinions, provides cultural enrichment, intellectual stimulation, and intelligent, enlightening entertainment.”
