Susan Lampert Smith teaches the introduction to science and technology news writing class for undergraduates in the Department of Life Sciences Communication. She is a science writer for UW Health, focusing on research from the UW Carbone Cancer Center and UW School of Medicine and Public Health. She works with media relations with outlets ranging from the BBC and Al Jazeera to Wisconsin Public Radio and the Dodgeville Chronicle.

She is a member of the National Association of Science Writers and the American Association of Medical College’s Group on Institutional Advancement. Lampert Smith formerly wrote an award-winning newspaper column and won the national Agricultural Journalism Award for a story on kids and farm safety.

She’s the author of two books, “Greetings from Wisconsin” and “Wisconsin Weekends with Kids” and a contributor to several others. She’s a 1982 graduate of LSC, and runs Blue Valley Gardens, an organic asparagus and produce farm near Blue Mounds with her husband, Matt, who is also a College of Agricultural and Life Sciences graduate.
