Degree program: M.S. in Life Sciences Communication Hometown: São Paulo, Brazil This scholarship is a huge honor and will allow me to take classes over the summer. Summer courses are very time-consuming since they are compressed into a few weeks, making it extremely difficult or even impossible to attend class and work a full-time job simultaneously. With this scholarship, I’ll be able to take classes while working part-time, which will allow me to take courses I otherwise could not. Additionally, the scholarship may allow me to work fewer hours during the regular semesters. That way, I can use that time to focus on my research. Future goals: After I complete my master’s, I plan on pursuing a Ph.D. to continue researching how different media can bridge the gap between science and the public, focusing on visual narratives. I also haven’t ruled out going into the private sector, where I would like to create a structure to connect scientists to visual storytellers. Alternatively, I could write scientific stories myself. Whatever the future has in store for me, it is very reassuring to be in a program that allows for so many career opportunities.
