Yachao Qian is an assistant scientist in the Department of Life Sciences Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He works with students and faculty to develop computational tools to analyze media coverage, public opinion trends, and other analytic instruments.
Qian has a diverse background in academic and industry research. He earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Stony Brook University, where he studied symmetry, topology, and quantum field theory. Later he worked as a software kernel developer, a hardware engineer, and a senior algorithm engineer at domestic and international companies. His research includes various implementations of machine learning algorithms in hardware, which is essential for the system’s performance and security.
