Emily Howell is a researcher in the Department of Life Sciences Communication, where she focuses on communication around controversial science-related issues, such as human gene editing, vaccines, and energy technologies. Her interest is in improving our abilities to incorporate and reach decisions across diverse interests and value divisions, to address the big challenges and questions in science and society. Howell is co-developing the Civic Science Fellows learning program with the Rita Allen Foundation and other partners across philanthropy, media organizations, science societies, and academia, among others. She has a B.A. in History of Science from Harvard, and M.S. and PhD in Environment & Resources, with a certificate in Energy Analysis & Policy and a minor in Life Sciences Communication, from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
