LSC graduate student James T. Spartz and Assistant Professor Bret Shaw have an article in the current issue of the Journal of the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin which investigates the role of hospice professionals’ attitudes and practices related to disposal of unused or unwanted medications during care and after patient death. Using a statewide targeted sample, Spartz and Shaw’s survey of hospice professionals in Wisconsin found inconsistent medication disposal practices among agencies statewide and moderate levels of concern for the environmental impacts of pharmaceuticals on the ecosystem.
