Background
I am the John E. Ross Chair in Science Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Co-PI of the Center for Nanotechnology in Society at Arizona State University. My current research program – funded by the National Science Foundation and other agencies – deals with the public opinion dynamics surrounding controversial science, focusing particularly on the interplay among media, policy actors and lay audiences. I currently co-chair the National Conference of Lawyers and Scientists, a joint committee of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Bar Association, and am a former member of the Nanotechnology Technical Advisory Group to the U.S. President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
My consulting experience includes work on communication strategy for PBS, the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and other corporate and public sector clients in China, Malaysia, the U.A.E., and the U.S. Before coming to Wisconsin, I was a tenured faculty member at Cornell University.
