Professor Dietram A. Scheufele received the Vilas Associate award for research on how the public integrates interpersonal communication into its understanding of scientific issues in media accounts. He will be conducting research over a two-year period to explore the processes by which public understanding of science is enhanced by discussion, and the anticipation of discussion.
