lsc doctoral candidate jiyoun kim receives mapor honorable mention award in student paper competition

Congratulations to LSC doctoral candidate Jiyoun Kim, who received a “Honorable Mention” award at the 2012 MAPOR Fellows Student Paper Competition in Chicago during the annual conference November 16 to 17, for her paper “Selective Attention, Primed-Encoding and the Role of Language in Mediated Scientific Messages Processing.”

Her research examines whether audiences evaluate a mediated message about a scientific issue after equally processing all given information, or whether they focus on certain dimensions of the information provided. More specifically, she explores how people selectively process information provided in a message about nanotechnology. Her research is funded by a grant from the UW-Madison Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center in Templated Synthesis and Assembly at the Nanoscale (Grant No. SES-DMR-0832760).

The Midwest Association for Public Opinion Research (MAPOR) is a chapter of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR). Kim’s paper abstract is available here.
